Alexander Sánchez Jones is Principal Investigator specialising in cetacean conservation.

He joined Alnitak in 2018 as a research assistant and Toftevaag crew, and at present his main focus is studying the Risso’s dolphins of the Balearic Islands developing a photo-identification catalogue as a monitoring tool for open sea MPAs.

Prior to Alnitak, he was part of the technical team of Equinac attending strandings, handling marine turtles and small cetaceans in rehabilitation, and performing necropsies and sampling. In education, his work with students has been recognised with two Outreach Awards by the European Collaborative for International Schools (ECIS). Alexander is occasionally invited on board ships and ocean liners as a Guest Speaker, and often leads expeditions and tours.
